i made friends with a crow
he bribed my cats
and came in through the cat flap
said he wanted to help

he saw a book on the sofa and said
“i see you’re familiar with my work”
i smiled through the grief
“i see you’re familiar with mine”

i asked him if he was real
or if i was just stealing an idea
“i don’t think that matters” he said
i suppose that’s true

i asked him, “what happens now?”
“you tell me” he says from the top of my bookshelf
“well, i suppose you stay”
“until I don’t need you anymore”

and so began
